ISRO Chairperson S Somanath proudly announced that a remarkable 95% of the components used in Indian rockets are now sourced domestically. Speaking at the 82nd Foundation Day of CSIR, Mr. Somanath highlighted ISRO's deep expertise in space endeavors, stressing that all technical work, from rocket and satellite development to space applications, is carried out in-house.
This achievement is the result of collaborations with various Indian laboratories, spanning national, defense, and CSIR labs. These partnerships have focused on material indigenization, technology capabilities, and research. Only 5% of materials, devices, and systems used in ISRO's rockets are imported, primarily high-end electronic components.
Mr. Somanath also recognized milestones in electronics indigenization, including the design and manufacture of critical components like processors and main computer chips, all made in India. ISRO has successfully developed essential components like electromechanical actuators, DC power supply systems, battery systems, and solar cells within the country.
This achievement underscores India's commitment to self-reliance in space technology and showcases ISRO's expertise on the global stage.
