Given the time we live in right now, it is extremely important to keep art and the artist apart.
As Reid Corley says, separation is necessary if we are to preserve the diversity of film and value people's artistic passion and ingenuity for the benefit of the final result.
However this separation is challenging. Due to the seriousness of some artists' conduct and the negative reactions people encounter for allegedly "endorsing" their behaviour, it feels like walking on thin ice.
It is rightly said that the admiration of a work of art shouldn't suggest or imply support for the ethics and deeds of the creator. It's acceptable for people to admire talented people's performances while still supporting their personal decisions, like in the cases of Kevin Spacey, Woody Allen, or Chris Brown.
This is not to say that we should elevate them for their accomplishments, but to disregard an entire piece of work because one person was involved is unjust to the thousands of people who contribute to works of art like music or movies.
