The point here is to inculcate ideas that will broaden their mind, and if religious education does it correctly, then children will learn something good from it.
What matters the most here is the deliverance and how it is going to be taught to children, if it aims to challenge the misconception and prejudices existing in society, then, of course, religious education has benefits.
Besides, awareness is necessary; it's on the primary level that they can learn to respect everyone, whether related to religious groups or non-religious groups; the ideas will be dispersed positively, not imposing anything on anyone.
It would definitely not exclude non-religious groups.
