Today I will be telling you all a little about Jainism cause I don’t think many people are aware about us as a community. Jainism is divided into two major sects one is Svetambara and the other one is Digambara.
I follow svetambara so I will be telling you about it.
We are called the white clad. The gurus that we follow strictly wear all white clothes, they walk bare foot wherever they travel, they are not allowed to touch or be more closer than 1 ft away from another sex, they have to pluck their hair they cannot cut it, they wear a white cloth on their mouth which is called mukhvastrika or muhpati ( informally mumti), they usually have a white broom with themselves which they carry.
I won’t go much more into detail now I will just be giving you a gist on a few things that all the svetambara Jain people do and follow .
1.People in our religion are not allowed to eat non vegetarian or underground vegetables which include( onions, garlic, potato etc) or anything which has greater life.
To be more precise we as a community believe that eating non-vegetarian food is a sin as it kills animals who are also considered inherent living beings just as humans. Killing of animals and plants is wrong according to Jainism and we try to avoid it as much as possible as we are a firm believer of no animal and plants cruelty.
2.We as a community also believe in reincarnation just as Hindus and buddhists the cycle of birth, death and rebirth is determined by one’s karma.
3.we do not believe in god or a creator.
4.We believe we should not be violent in what we think, do or say.
We believe that the path to enlightenment is by not killing living beings and nonviolence and we strongly believe in our principles.
