This is the defining moment of Joe Biden's presidency.

Biden talked about making the US a world leader again but it seems he has squandered the opportunity.

Make no mistake, when historians will look back at this moment, the moment of cowardly and ugly retreat from Afghanistan, the moment of leaving Afghans loyals to them for the last 20 years at the mercy of Taliban, the moment of American defeat at the hands of Pakistan, they will write that history repeated itself in the reign of "Joe the Compassionate" and Afghanistan turned into graveyard of another world power, again!

Many well-meaning strategic thinkers argue that the US has enough tech wizardry at its disposal to ward off any kind of threat from terrorists at mainland America and Trumpian Wonderland doesn't care of Afghanistan and it's the where the heart lies of battle of 2022 and 2024.

They may be right but one attack, anywhere on American interests or its allies, spread across the globe, will change opinion of people.

The US knew very well that Taliban was just another face of Pakistan army. The Afghan forces were up against the Pakistani army regulars and that's why they surrendered so easily as they knew it was futile to fight Pak forces and they took into account the fact that it was only their erstwhile benefactor who had appointed Pakistan as the new Sherif in the town.


I am not saying America should have remained militarily invested in Afghanistan forever but it could have easily got a lot better bargain from Pakistan but Biden was in so much hurry to leave Afghanistan that he decided to make bed with the devil.

"I also know there are many who will argue that we should stay — stay fighting in Afghanistan because withdrawal would damage America’s credibility and weaken America’s influence in the world. I believe the exact opposite is true," Biden had said while announcing withdrawal from Afghanistan but scenes from Bagram are testimony to fact that exactly opposite of what Biden believed is turning out to be true!
