Today, former Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan confirmed his retirement from the game.
In April 2011, Flanagan made his professional club debut for the Reds under Sir Kenny Dalglish after rising through the Reds Academy ranks.
The full-back achieved this milestone during a 3-0 victory over Manchester City at Anfield, and over the next two years, he appeared on 16 additional occasions.
In the 2013–14 season, Flanagan achieved his highest points while donning a Liverpool jersey, being a regular member of Brendan Rodgers' squad that came so close to winning the Premier League.
He made 23 top-flight games, mostly on the left side of defence, and scored one goal, away at Tottenham Hotspur, during a thrilling season that saw the Reds just barely edge the Spurs for the title.
Unfortunately, a serious injury later stopped Flanagan's progress, which had included receiving international recognition from England. The Scouser required two knee operations and missed 20 months of play.
In January 2016, he made a memorable comeback to the field under Jürgen Klopp. He has since played nine times for the current manager in addition to going out on loan to Burnley and Bolton Wanderers.
Before deciding to hang up his boots after more knee surgery, Flanagan represented Rangers, Charleroi, and HB Koge after leaving Liverpool in the summer of 2018.
He broke the news, saying, "Ultimately, my long-term health has to come first." "In light of medical advice, I've decided that retiring from the sport is the best course for me right now.
"When I was a kid, I wanted to be a professional football player, and I'm very happy to report that I've achieved my goal.
"Those memories made, not only playing [for] and captaining my boyhood club Liverpool, but also representing my nation, will last a lifetime. I'm very grateful to have had the experience that most people can only dream of."
"I will now start the next chapter of my football experience, and I'm enthusiastic about what the future holds," Flanagan continued.
Wishing him a great future ahead.
Thankyou ⚽
