Brazil is in a state of flux.
The performances are middling, the squad is on the verge of stagnation, and to top it all of, Carlo Ancelotti, the man who the Brazilian federation thought would be the savior of this glorious footballing nation, has abandoned them to stay in Madrid for 2 more years, razing their plans for the upcoming cycle to the ground.
So what do the Selecao do to rectify a mistake that has been termed "Stratospherically embarrassing" by its media?
Enter, Jose Mourinho.
Up until a couple of days ago, there was absolutely nothing to give the impression that the current Roma boss was even in the running for the job. But recently in a press conference, Mourinho candidly said that he had no inkling about any sort of contact made by the Brazil federation with his agent about the possibility of taking that job. The fact that there was no indication of a firm denial has now sent tongues wagging all across the football world.
So how does Mourinho fit here? For starters, there will be no language barrier because of his Portuguese lineage. Secondly, he still remains one of the biggest names in the coaching business. Jose Mourinho is the type of person that can have a massive unifying effect which can get the fans and players alike rallying for him, even if it is for a very small period.
While on the surface of things his style of play is a stark antithesis to the self-proclaimed "Jogo Bonito", it is worth considering that despite Brazil having the world's imagination as the land of flair and beautiful football, it is a land that is deep-rooted in its own sense of conservatism. Brazil are no strangers themselves to putting results ahead of artsy football, with the case in point being the victorious 1994 World Cup campaign under Carlos Alberto Parreira.
Brazil know that they have to start winning. This team is in need of some joy. There is no bigger sense of beauty in football than winning, and Jose Mourinho guarantees that.
It is hypothetical, but Mourinho as Brazil manager will be an absolute joyride.
