Kiran Rao Talks About Her First Meeting with Aamir Khan After Divorce

Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao have been notably open about their divorce, maintaining a commendable friendship post-separation. In a recent interview, Kiran Rao reminisced about her initial encounter with Aamir Khan and how their relationship evolved.

During an interview with Cyrus Broacha, Kiran shared, "I was between jobs when Reema Kagti invited me to join a project in Bhuj, which turned out to be the film 'Lagaan.' At that time, I hadn't watched many Hindi movies and didn't realize how unique this project was. Aamir was taking a significant risk with this sports film set 100 years ago in Awadhi, a different dialect. My role involved managing the layers of costumes for the cast, which felt like film school to me."

Kiran also discussed how she began writing her first film, "Dhobi Ghat," while traveling with Aamir during the shooting of "Rang De Basanti." She recalled, "While working on 'Swades,' I reconnected with Aamir, who was filming 'Mangal Pandey' at the time. We started dating then. After 'Swades,' Aamir began working on 'Rang De Basanti.' I decided to travel with him and write while he was shooting, which is when I wrote 'Dhobi Ghat.'"
