I regret not starting early. It was in class sixth when I met the maddest friend of my life. He is the “Behti Hawa Sa Tha Wo Guy” of my life as he taught me to live the life to the fullest and he being an avid reader, I too got the biggest and best present ever, of my life: BOOK!
I still remember the day I stepped into the world of books, sunshine glowing on the bookshelves, and I smelled the scent of books.
Time passed.
However, the love of reading has been kept unchanged, except that I don't suck my fingers anymore while I'm reading.
I bring a book with me wherever I go be it in restaurants while I'm waiting for a meal or in the metro. To read is to voyage through nooks and crannies, land of fairies and dungeons of monsters; it’s like a time travel in the fantasy island.
Also, I believe that when parents read books to children, firstly it rekindles the dying art of storytelling in Indian houses and moreover brings back good memories from their own childhood. This is a strong relationship that can get rid of gaps in between generations.
And there's one thing I know for sure: reading will be a life-long love for me. How good it feels to transcend the barrier of ignorance just by sitting quietly and enjoying the books in solitude. I think that books are the most powerful thing in the world and when everything dies, these books uphold the knowledge and tradition for times immemorial.
