History of the Hawk Eye
Hawk Eye has become a major part of cricket today. We frequently see umpires use the Hawk Eye ball tracking software to judge LBW decisions. Hawk Eye is a computer vision technology used in a number of sports like Cricket and tennis to track the trajectory of a ball and predict its path.
The technology was first used in Cricket in the year 2001 in a Test match between England and Pakistan at Lord's. The Channel 4, a British public broadcast channel was the first channel to deploy the technology in cricket.
The Hawk Eye was first developed at Roke Manor Research in Hampshire, England, and later on at the Siemens subsidiary. The Hawk Eye Innovations Private Limited was initially based in Hampshire. In 2006, the company was bought by the Wisden Group and other investors. In 2010, the company was sold to Sony.
