Yesterday India won the last match of the three match T20i series against South Africa, star spinner Kuldeep Yadav was on fire for India during the third and final match of the T20i INDvsSA series.
In the must-win match for India, Kuldeep, who was celebrating his 29th birthday on December 14, picked up five wickets for 17 runs in 2.5 overs.
He helped India bowl out the Proteas for just 95 runs in 13.5 overs to win the match by a record margin of 106 runs and level the T20I series at 1-1.
The figures of 5 for 17 are Kuldeep's best bowling figures for India in T20Is and fourth overall by an Indian bowler in the shortest format of the game. By taking five wickets in the series decider, Kuldeep created history. The left-arm wrist spinner became the first Indian spinner to take two five-wicket hauls in T20Is. Kuldeep's first five-wicket haul in T20Is was against England in 2018, when he dismissed five English batters for 24 runs in four overs on July 3, 2018, at Old Trafford in Manchester.
During the third T20I, Kuldeep picked up his first wicket on the last ball of his first over of the match and his second wicket on the last ball of the second over. Kuldeep picked up his third, fourth, and fifth wickets on the first, third, and fifth balls of the 14th over of the South African innings.
Yuzvendra Chahal holds the record for best bowling figures in T20Is by an Indian spinner when he picked up six wickets for 25 runs against England in Bengaluru on February 1, 2017, but he has not managed to take another five-wicket haul in T20Is.
Only Bhuvneshwar Kumar has managed to take two five-wicket hauls in T20Is for India before Kuldeep. In terms of most five-wicket hauls in T20Is across the globe, only 13 bowlers have picked five or more wickets in T20Is more than once, and no one so far has managed to do so on three occasions.
