Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Lakshadweep has undeniably sparked a surge in searches for the location. Consisting of 36 islands, this smallest Union Territory of India has experienced an unprecedented increase in popularity.
Data from MyGovIndia reveals that the global search interest in the islands has now reached its highest point in the last two decades. The official X (formerly Twitter) page of MyGovIndia shared a graphical representation illustrating the increased search interest in the Lakshadweep Islands. "PM Narendra Modi's visit to Lakshadweep caused a significant surge in online searches about the islands. This worldwide search interest is currently at its highest in the last 20 years, indicating a renewed fascination with its natural beauty and cultural richness," MyGovIndia mentioned.
While the official data indicates a global surge in searches for the Lakshadweep Islands, there is also a reported increase in interest from travel platforms and tour operators.
Online travel aggregator MakeMyTrip, for instance, has reported an astonishing 3400% increase in on-platform searches specifically for Lakshadweep. This surge in interest suggests a heightened curiosity and desire among travellers to explore this picturesque destination.
In a post shared on January 8, the travel platform said, "We have observed a 3400% increase in on-platform searches for Lakshadweep ever since the Honorable PM's visit."
They further mentioned, "This interest in Indian beaches has inspired us to launch a 'Beaches of India' campaign on the platform with offers and discounts to encourage Indian travellers to explore the country's stunning beaches."
