LNot being on top always means winning in real, and India having such a high population does not really add upto countries development.

Though having such large numbers could be beneficial but we also have to see, India has a high rural population, with high uneducated and people belonging from the scheduled castes and tribes, who are deprived of the most basic facilities and resources.

With so much population comes the constraint in resources, and India already has been facing issue related to lack of resources as basic as food, water and energy.

What's the point of living or being alive when you don't have food to eat or even water to drink?

Such large population will also increase problems like unemployment and poverty, which is already all time high.

Though we might be a huge country with huge population but we have inadequate resources thus which doesn't give everybody the access to healthcare, jobs and education, thus leading to more poverty.

It's a vicious circle we're stuck in and I am not really sure is there a way out!

The Indian Government was aware that India will surpass China and become the highest populous country in the world. The government did not care, or thought of implementing policies or programs aiming at population control though it know high population present so many challenges in the country.

I think there are multiple things for the Indian Government to take care of and high population is least of their concern.

Let's see how India will able to prosper amid the high population and lack of resources.
