Latasil Bihu in Guwahati is known to hold massive and vibrant celebrations every year during the four-day Rongali Bihu celebrations from April 14 to April 17. The traditional Bihu dance and 'hunsori' are a treat to watch at the event. This year, however, the Latasil Bihu committee said they have not been able to carry out the preparations up to the mark.
Speaking to G Plus, Bijit Pradip Das, the cultural secretary of the Latasil Bihu committee, said a government event held at the ground has delayed their preparations for the Bihu function.
"The platinum jubilee celebration of the Gauhati High Court is being held here from April 5 to April 8. It has created a lot of problems for us; we are not yet able to set up the stage and the pandal," Das said.
"As the Bihu celebrations start on April 14, we do not know if we will be able to set up the stage and the pandal on time or not," he was quick to add.
"The Latasil Bihu is known to put up some of the finest cultural shows during Bihu. But I am unsure of the same this time around. The High Court even could have been shifted either to the Khanapara Playground or the Kalakshetra," he said.
"We barely have time to prepare for the Bihu function. After the GHC event, we will be left with 5 days at the most. This is not enough time for preparation," Das added.
Ankita Saikia, a local, shared a similar feeling while sharing her views with G Plus.
"From childhood, I have seen the Latasil playground getting ready for Rongali Bihu from March end. The committee makes an extra effort to give a sleek look to the stage and the overall pandal. Because of the platinum jubilee celebration of the High Court, the scene is entirely different this year. I hope things are sorted out soon, and the pandal preparation starts soon," she said.
