Late Dr Bhalchandra Babaji Dikshit Padma Bhushan Awardee

Late Dr Bhalchandra Babaji Dikshit was an Indian physician and pharmacologist. He was the first Director of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi (1956-64). A distinguished medical scientist, a teacher par excellence, he revolutionised the realm of teaching and medical research. His appointment remains one of the best things that happened to AIIMS since its inception. The faculty members, students, technicians, gardeners and sweepers, all worked as one family under the parental eye of Dr Dikshit to make AIIMS a name to reckon with in the medical arena.
HIS Contribution to Healthcare Landscape in India
Dr B. B. Dixit implemented a curriculum that took into account the then-latest advances in medical education and was at the same time relevant to national needs.
His inspiring leadership made some of the best Indian medical scientists working in different parts of the world give up attractive offers abroad to come and join the exciting experiment in innovative institution-building going on at AIIMS.

The Government of India honoured Dr Bhalchandra Babaji Dikshit with the Padma Bhushan for his remarkable contributions in 1965.
