Dr Sivaramakrishna Iyer Padmavati was a cardiologist. She was director of is
National Heart Institute, Delhi, and the founder president of All India Heart Foundation. The institute collaborates with the World Health Organisation (WHO) in training students in preventive cardiology. Padmavati was the first woman cardiologist who established the first cardiac clinic and cardiac catheter lab in India. She is known as the 'godmother of cardiology' who broke gender barriers & believed only in science.
HER Contribution to Healthcare Landscape in India ;
She took over as the director-principal of Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi, in 1967.She would introduce the first DM Cardiology course during her time there. She then followed it up with the establishment of the first coronary care unit and the first coronary care van in India. By the 1970s, she was the head of three major institutions at the same time
- MaulanaAzad Medical College, Lok Nayak Hospital and G.B. Pant Hospital.
