Late Hakim Abdul Hameed was a renovned Physician, practioner of Unami Medicine System, philanthropist and visionary. He founded Jamia Hamdard with his own resources and several other esteemed institutions with funds from Hamdard Waqf Laboratories. To bring happiness and growth to society he used traditional medicine, education, social services and healthcare. Even during partition of India, he visualised establishing a complex of institutions to develop Unani medicines for curing diseases and highlighting Islamic Cultural contribution.
HIS Contribution to Healthcare Landscape in India ;
Pursuing his father's enduring "Hamdard" legacy Hakim A. Hameed established a wide network of Hamdard institutions to promote education amongst the poor and Muslims and to make traditional medicines available to the masses. He is the first to use the Waqf concept in innovative ways for public good. Instituted many scholarships and awards to recognise professional and technical excellence. His multidimensional approach is a success story in the service of society.

* IRCICA (Research Centre for Islamic History, Art and Culture) Award by Turkey in 2000 for preservation and promotion of cultural heritage. His contribution to the cause of education of Muslims is recognised worldwide.

It was his nationalist inspiration that made quality and affordable health products available to the common masses. The exclusivity of traditional and Unani treatment was modernised and it established the efficacy of such treatment in the common Indian consciousness.
