Dyspareunia is a medical term that refers to painful sexual intercourse. Recurring pain before, during and after sexual intercourse in the genital region.
It Can happen to anyone, but more common in people with vaginas. What are the SYMPTOMS?
- Pain while penetration is attempted, during penetration & thrusting.
- Burning & Aching Pain sensation.
- Pain after relatively painfree intercourse.. this can last for hours.
In these cases, a tampon can also trigger the pain! What causes dyspareunia??
- inflammation (or infection) FERTILITY So Waginismus
- Lack of lubrication (low estrogen levels)
- Prev. Surgery, trauma
- Congenital Disorders
- History of sexual abuse
- Anxiety, Depression
- Endometriosis Fibroids, PID
(Causes not limited to these)
Treatment is based on treating the root cause of Dyspareunia.
1 Therapy, counselling and desensitisation therapy is available for psychological causes.
2 For physical & pathological causes medication as well as surgical procedures where ever required.
Some stuff you can try yourself;
- Use lube!
- Communicate
- Lots of foreplay
- Don't be in a rush, go slow
And there are other ways of sexual pleasure as well, not just penetration.
