Liverpool has yet again pulled off another sensational heist. The Kopites have agreed on terms with PSV to sign the young Dutch prodigy Cody Gakpo. The Eredivisie club broke the news via a tweet that stated, "PSV and LFC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo. The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently, where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the transfer."
"The Kopites gain is Manchester United's loss," who, for the umpteenth time, have surrendered another of their targets to their arch-rivals, Liverpool. In the span of 12 months, this is the second time United has failed to land the final nail in the coffin. Firstly, it was Darwin Nunez and now Gakpo, both of whom were Ten Hag's priority targets.
After failing to finalize the deal in the summer, Gakpo to United looked imminent in the winter. With the Red Devils beating the drum long before closing the deal. But it was all white noise as Liverpool swooped in from nowhere and hijacked the move without United getting a sniff. After another heartbreak, it will be fascinating to see how United deals with this setback.
Whereas, for the Merseyside Reds, the signing of Gakpo has uplifted the mood at Anfield. Liverpool, who've struggled to meet their high standards this season, will welcome Gakpo with open arms. The Reds are very thin in the attacking department because of injuries to players like Dias and Jota. However, Liverpool began their second half, with an impressive 3-1 away win over Aston Villa. It was a feisty encounter with ample chances for both teams. Jurgen Klopp will be itching to get Gakpo off and running, as Nunez seems to be missing his shooting boots.
Cody Gakpo is a versatile forward and can operate in any of the four advanced positions. Blessed with speed and clinical finishing, Gakpo could be the man to take the baton from Mane and carry forth Liverpool's next generation. The Dutch forward (23) is still relatively young and- under the guidance of Klopp, could be the next big thing at Anfield.
