In the 60th minute, Liverpool's manager, Rafael Benitez, made a bold substitution, bringing on Vladimir Smicer for Steve Finnan. Just two minutes later, Smicer scored a stunning goal from outside the box, bringing Liverpool level with Milan. The momentum was now firmly with Liverpool, and Milan were struggling to contain them.
Liverpool continued to press forward, but the match remained tied at 3-3 at the end of normal time. The game went into extra time, and both teams were exhausted. Milan had already used all three of their substitutions, and Liverpool's players were visibly fatigued after their incredible comeback.
However, Liverpool refused to give up. In the 115th minute of the match, Steven Gerrard won a free-kick on the edge of the box. Xabi Alonso stepped up to take it, but his initial shot was saved by Milan's goalkeeper, Dida. Alonso followed up on the rebound, though, and slotted the ball into the back of the net, giving Liverpool an unbelievable 4-3 lead.
Milan tried to mount a comeback of their own in the remaining minutes of the match, but Liverpool's defence held firm. When the final whistle blew, Liverpool had completed one of the greatest comebacks in football history, winning their fifth European Cup and etching their name into football folklore.
The "Miracle of Istanbul" will always be remembered as one of the greatest moments in Liverpool's history. It was a night when a group of underdogs refused to give up, and against all the odds, they came out on top.
The game will also be remembered as a testament to the power of belief and the importance of never giving up, no matter how impossible the task may seem.
