Paul Scholes is widely regarded as one of the greatest English footballers of his generation, and one of the greatest midfielders in the history of the sport. Born in Salford, Greater Manchester on November 16, 1974, Scholes began his footballing journey at a very young age, joining the Manchester United academy at just 14 years old.
Scholes made his first-team debut for Manchester United in September 1994, and immediately impressed with his technical ability, vision, and passing range. He quickly established himself as a key player in the Manchester United squad, playing a crucial role in their successes throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
During his time at Manchester United, Scholes won a staggering 25 major trophies, including 11 Premier League titles, three FA Cups, and two Champions League trophies. He was a crucial part of the famous "Class of 92" team that included the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville, who all came through the Manchester United academy together.
Scholes was known for his incredible ability to dictate the pace of a game from midfield, and for his eye for a killer pass. He was equally adept at scoring goals himself, with a powerful right foot and a knack for finding the back of the net from distance.
He was also renowned for his exceptional work rate and tenacity, and was never afraid to get stuck in and win the ball back for his team. He was often the first line of defence for his team and would stop opposition players from even reaching the Manchester United back line.
