In a story posted by the IndianExpress two women scientists who didn't come from the best of backgrounds, but the hardwork, grit and determination of their parents and also their love for maths got them a job into India's Premier Space Research Organisation i.e, ISRO.
One of their father Sheik Meeran was a farmer from Tamil Nadu who had a strong resolve: his four children should study hard and become financially independent, come what may. Years later, one of his children went much beyond his expectations, aiming for the sky.
On September 2, Nigar Shaji, 59, shared the dais with ISRO chairperson S Somanath as he announced the successful launch of Aditya-L1, India’s first mission to study the Sun.
Shaji is the project director of the mission, coordinating with hundreds of people across ISRO centres to ensure things go as planned for the spacecraft travelling 1.5 million km from Earth for an unobstructed view of the Sun.
At a time when it was not very common for Muslim women to come out and study, my father ensured that all of us brothers and sisters received a good education. He believed that women should be financially independent," Shaji told The Indian Express.
