In a daring act, a woman identified as Jhansi Rani Samuel managed to dupe a luxury hotel in Delhi's Aerocity of approximately ₹6 lakh while having only ₹41 in her bank account. Staying under the alias Isha Dave, Samuel's 15-day stay at the Pullman Hotel included fraudulent transactions, including spa services, amounting to ₹5,88,176.
Despite producing a fake ID card, her cover unraveled when the hotel realized her payments, made through an alleged dubious ICICI Bank UPI app, were never received. Samuel was arrested on January 13, but her motives for staying near the airport remain unclear.
The police, facing non-cooperation from Samuel, have reached out to authorities in Andhra Pradesh for information on the accused. While she claimed to be a doctor married to a New York-based medical professional, the police are yet to verify this information.
Charges filed against Samuel include cheating, impersonation, forgery, and using forged documents. The case sheds light on the growing challenges of digital payment fraud and the need for heightened security measures in the hospitality sector.
