A review of the movie as available on Netflix and YouTube
26/11 was a day that no Indian can forget, when India's integrity and sovereignty was questioned on a global platform despite its growing importance when Islamic Fundamentalist terrorists rampaged across various important hotspots of Mumbai, leaving death and destruction in their wake. However, it is also a day when we got several heroes, one of which was Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, on whom the movie is based.
Quite often we see our heroes as untouchable and pure, one that was selfless and pure of heart and character. We start pedestalising them to an uncomfortable degree, which is what this movie aims to break through. The movie is not just about his death, but about his life, as a dialogue in the movie itself goes. We learn and grow with Sandeep, understanding his motivations and aspirations. We see him be selfless to a degree that he is ready to bear pain for others. It is this flawed yet striving Sandeep that makes us laugh, relate and fall in love with him.
The story celebrates his sacrifice no doubt, but never is this sacrifice either belittled or glorified. It is just seen as a part and parcel of being a fauji, a true soldier. We see his parents and his wife weep over his body, but never do they regret having been related to Major Sandeep, and not just Sandeep. This movie is one that definitely made me poignant and is just the right dose of action and patriotism without it being shoved down the throat.
