Manipur’s TG English School wins 63rd Subroto Cup U-17 Boys tournament.

TG English School, Bishnupur, Manipur, beat Myngken Christian Higher Secondary School, Bhoirymbong, Meghalaya, 4-3 via the sudden death tie-break after the teams were locked 1-1 at the end of the regulation period in the final of the 63rd Subroto Cup under-17 boys football tournament at the Ambedkar Stadium on Wednesday.

Namdigong put the Manipur team ahead in the 32nd minute, following a goal mouth melee. Bampliebok Khongjoh converted a penalty in the 64th minute to get the equaliser for Meghalaya, six minutes before hooter.

In the tie-break, Alex, Namdigong and Goutam converted for the Maniput side. Banpliebok, Masharing and Bipiush were successful for the Meghalaya side.

In the sudden death phase, Phonis found the target for the Manipur side, while Wanpli missed for Meghalaya.

Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari presented the trophies, along with the guest of honour, Harmilan Bainss, the silver medallist in 800 and 1500 metres of the last Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

The champion team was presented Rs.5,00,000 and the runner-up Rs.3,00,000. The semifinalists and quarterfinalists were given Rs.75,000 and Rs.40,000 respectively.
