After conducting a second anonymous poll earlier this week, the Paris Saint-Germain team has chosen to keep Marquinhos as their captain for the 2023/24 season. Marquinhos has been the defensive fort for the club since his fellow Brazilian and defensive partner, Thiago Silva, left three years ago.
Marquinhos' captaincy was in doubt due to a less impressive performance last season and the squad changes this summer. He initially began the season's first game against Lorient on the bench, but was reinstated in the starting lineup against Toulouse last Sunday after the first vote.
RMC Sport has now disclosed the final poll results, indicating that Danilo Pereira secured second place and former captain Presnel Kimpembe came in third, with Kylian Mbappé trailing in fourth. The new head coach, Luis Enrique, allowed the team to decide and aimed to have four captains, making Mbappé one of the vice-captains.
Mbappé, also the captain of the French national team, has reconciled with the club management and returned to the first-team squad. Nevertheless, his future remains uncertain, and a transfer to Real Madrid is still a possibility. The Frenchman marked the club's first Ligue 1 goal of the season from a penalty kick in the last weekend's 1-1 draw against Toulouse.
