Saraswati Devi, affectionately known as 'Mauni Mata' in Ayodhya, embarked on a vow of silence the day Babri Masjid was demolished in 1992. Promising to break her silence only when the Ram temple was inaugurated, Devi communicated with her family through sign language and written notes.
Leaving for Ayodhya on Monday night to witness the temple's inauguration, Devi, a Dhanbad resident, has been jubilant since the announcement of the consecration date. Her son shared that she took the vow of silence on December 6, 1992, and will break it on January 22.
Invited by disciples of Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, Devi will participate in the Ram temple inauguration event. Devoting her life to Lord Ram after her husband's death in 1986, she spent much of her time in pilgrimages.
Living with her son in Dhanbad, Devi maintained 'maun vrat' for 23 hours a day, breaking it only for an hour at noon. After the foundation laying ceremony in 2020, she pledged a 24-hour 'maun vrat' until the temple's inauguration. Devi's disciplined routine includes meditation, studying religious texts, and maintaining a vegetarian diet.
