Maya And The Three
A review of the Netflix Mini Series
So I started watching Maya and the Three, fascinated by its visuals, setting during the Incan era and its absolutely beautiful way of incorporating mythology (that I absolutely ADORE!!!). Thus, I set about watching Maya and The Three.
At first glance, the visuals are absolutely breathtaking, and the way they mesh in and out with the main storyline makes one absolutely fall in love with not just the characters but the story as well. The wonderful use of colours to depict the various warriors and their respective kingdoms is spectacular if nothing less.
The main group of warriors, led by Maya, have their own individual struggles that they try to overcome, something that builds not only into the main story but also to what they are as individuals as well as their motivations and aspirations.
The story and its brilliant incorporation of Mexican folklore and mythology is to die for. I absolutely hate it when mythology and folklore are treated as secondary and the highlight is an unnecessary romance. Not so here, where the romance is gradual and not the focus of the main story. The two main leads have a wonderful chemistry that builds into the main story and its conclusion rather than taking away from it.
The main story will make you laugh, gasp, cry and just be ecstatic. It's a wonderful story that keeps on building with each passing episode, hooking the viewer but never letting one know what's gonna happen next. This piece of cinema is one for brilliant storytellers to watch for sure!!
