A stampede in a well-known market in Seoul, South Korea's capital, where a huge group had assembled for Halloween celebrations, resulted in at least 151 deaths and more than 150 injuries.
As many as one lakh individuals, largely in their teens and 20s, were claimed to have attended the Halloween celebration in central Seoul, jamming the area's congested streets and tight passageways.
On Sunday, President Yoon Suk-yeol issued a proclamation establishing a period of national mourning, announcing that the government will cover the cost of the injured and deceased's funerals as well as their medical care.
According to the fire department, among those died in the horrific rush at a Halloween celebration were 19 foreigners. 54 men and 97 women were among the deaths, they added.
Assuring the bereaved nation of India's solidarity, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar offered his sympathies over the tragedy and said he was "deeply horrified" by the loss of young lives.
