Morne Morkel to Join Team India as Bowling Coach
Former South African pacer Morne Morkel is set to join the Indian cricket team as bowling coach, replacing Paras Mhambrey. Morkel's tenure will begin with the Bangladesh series in September, where India will host two Tests and three T20Is. This appointment comes after Morkel's stint as Pakistan's bowling coach in the 2023 ICC World Cup.
Morkel has previously worked with Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir at the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL. His expertise in fast bowling will be valuable, especially with five of India's Tests in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle taking place at home.
However, it is unclear whether Sairaj Bahutule, who was recently added to the coaching staff for the Sri Lanka series, will remain with the team. If Bahutule stays, the coaching staff will be extensive, with multiple specialized coaches.
Morkel played 86 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 44 T20Is for South Africa, taking 309, 188, and 47 wickets respectively. His experience and expertise will be beneficial for the Indian team.
