It is the tournament that keeps on giving. It took gutsy efforts from Morocco and Croatia, with both doing enough to get out of Group F of the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Morocco tops group with 2-1 win
Needing just a point to prolong their World Cup stay, Morocco went one better, topping Canada 2-1 in Doha. A costly Milan Borjan error four minutes in allowed Hakem Ziyech to chip the ball over the Crvena zvezda man to put the North Africans in front.
Youssef En-Nesyri doubled the advantage at the quarter mark of the match after being played in by Achraf Hakimi. Finding soace between two Canadian center backs, the Sevilla striker beat Borjan at his near post.
The CONCACAF qualifying table toppers managed to get one back after Sam Adekugbe's cross was deflected in by Nayef Aguerd, who directed it into his own net
Canada tried to come away from Qatar with at least one point, but in the end, that goal was the best they got. Morocco wins the group with the result, qualifying for the knockout stage for the first time since 1986.
Croatia holds off Belgian onslaught, progresses at Red Devils' expense
The Belgian golden generation will go trophyless after they failed to find the net against Croatia.
After a dead first half in Al Rayyan, the second half saw the Belgians come out looking for the winning goal. Both Hazard brothers, Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans all came off the bench in hopes of changing the game in their favour. Lukaku himself had a pair of glorious chances at the end, but could not find a way to put this side in front.
In the end, Croatia moves on in second spot with the result. They went unbeaten in the group stage, claiming five points. Belgium, along with Canada, is eliminated. Time will tell whether that will be the end for Roberto Martinez and his time as Belgian coach.
