The word “Nirbaak” means speechless. It is a Bengali language movie and I believe that it is not everyone’s cup of tea. You ask why? You’ll find out soon.
It is a conjugation of four stories revolving around a woman, three men, a tree, and a bitch. The characters are played by Sushmita Sen, Anjan Dutta, Jisshu Sengupta, Ritwick Chakraborty (in order of appearance) respectively.
The story begins with the first man played by Anjan Dutta, waking on his birthday morning. His character depicts self-love and affection. But all that comes to an end when he meets an accident and loses his memory as he struggles to remember his identity.
The second story is about the lust of a tree for a woman. So much so that when her partner proposes to her, the next morning the tree's branches are shown to be broken depicting its heartbreak.
The next story begins with the woman and his partner arriving in an unnamed city where the man introduces her to his dog, Bingy. The dog is obsessed with him. This leads her to attack his partner violently. The couple then decides to keep Bingy with his mother for a while. On the way, Bingy tries to escape and the couple meets an accident. This results in the death of the woman and lands her partner in a coma while the dog is unharmed.
The final story begins with the corpse of the woman being taken to the morgue room where a caretaker falls for her. To protect her body from goons (who are wanting to perform necrophilia), he gets beaten to death by them.
The movie ends with his body put inside and her body being taken out. This shows a sense of separation between them.
This is an unusual movie about different forms of love or what people assume to be love. Its expression is mostly silent and unsaid. The movie really picks up the smallest of these details and at times truly makes us speechless!
