At the international level, how frequently do we see the same batsman get hit-wicket not once, but twice in a week? I am sure you can not remember. Well, Afghanistan’s Mujeeb Ur Rahman achieved this rare feat during their Asia Cup 2023 fixture against Bangladesh, which took place at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on Sunday (September 3).
Last week, during Afghanistan's third ODI against Pakistan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman smacked a quickfire 37-ball 64 before getting hit-wicket off Shaheen Shah Afridi. This time around, against Taskin Ahmed, he timed the ball perfectly, lofting over wide long-on for a huge maximum. However, in the process, he went deep inside the crease as he stepped onto the stumps.
Notably, Mujeeb Ur Rahman became the first player to get hit-wicket in successive ODIs. This was Afghanistan's first match in the Asia Cup, and the game in which Mujeeb was dismissed in the similar manner, was the last of the three-match series against the Men in Green.
Mujeeb was the second-last man to be dismissed as Afghanistan suffered a thumping 89-run defeat against Bangladesh. Chasing 335, the Rashid Khan-starred side were knocked over for 245 in 44.3 overs, with Rashid himself being the last man to return to the hut.
