The Mumbai Crime Branch has registered a case against gangster Rohit Godara in connection with the firing incident at Bollywood actor Salman Khan's residence last month.
The incident occurred on April 14 outside Khan's residence at Galaxy Apartments in Mumbai's Bandra area.
Earlier, the Mumbai Police suspected ties to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against all involved in the shooting.
Six individuals have been arrested in connection with the case so far, while four remain at large. The latest arrest, that of Harpal Singh (37) from Haryana's Fatehabad, took place on Monday evening. Singh will be presented in Mumbai's MCOCA court.
Singh's apprehension came following the interrogation of another accused, Mohammed Rafique Choudhary. It was revealed that Singh had financed Choudhary for conducting a recce mission around Salman Khan's residence.
Earlier, police said that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's brother, Anmol Vishnoi, played a key role in motivating the shooters. After receiving weapons delivery in Panvel on March 15, 2024, Anmol provided the shooters with the target's information, instructing them to carry out the firing at the actor's residence.
The shooting, executed as planned, resulted in the shooters receiving a total of Rs 3 lakh. The Mumbai Crime Branch continues its efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the incident.
Police sources revealed that the gunmen were hired by Anmol Bishnoi and were compensated for their actions. Additionally, two other individuals, Sonu Subhash Chander (37) and Anuj Thapan (32), were arrested in Punjab for allegedly providing arms to the shooters.
In response to the incident, Salman Khan's security was heightened by the state police, and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited Khan's residence to ensure that the government was handling the case responsibly.
