I am 72 year old academic not on social media but I would like to share my experience. My diabetes started in 2006, I was 51, diagnosed while being treated for some arterial issue. I started medication and a no sugar, diet and I have tendency to put on weight.
In 2013 at 58, I was put on insulin, I had gone into liver failure because of Hepatitis A. I was put on medication and on diet plan which helped me a lot.
Then to 2014-2018 I went on a monofood diet provided by another nutritionist.
Then in 2018 again I started gaining weight I took a balanced meal plan under another nutritionist.
My real problem started in 2019, in the lockdown and at the time of epidemic. I used to get hot flashes. And then that changed to numbness. This was attributed to diabetic neuropathy.
My normal diabetic medicines were continuing, but neuropathy was not coming under control. So all I could do was take pain relief medicine. So I decided to try acupuncture and that helped a lot.
It didn’t cure it completely but I felt better. Then i went to try this non-dairy no gluten diet plan (by Ishi Khosla). And then my numbness got better and it was like a magic.
The sugar is still not completely under control. The medication for sugar is on but has been reduced.
It was quite tough to change one's lifestyle completely. But now i am on almond milk and besan kethal roti and vegetables . I wanted to say though the sugar is not completely under control and the neuropathy better managed.
With changes in lifestyle. I find symptoms improving.
I won’t give a false statement that my diet has completely reversed my diabetes , I don’t know how long it will last but I would say it has made a huge difference.
