As I said, dance comes very naturally to me. My gurus are in India. I live in Japan. When something comes natural to you, you feel motivated within to pursue that. As a dancer I was trained under the great guru Padmabhushan awardee C V Chandrasekhar. I have learnt a lot from him. He is very disciplined. He is very dedicated. Despite being immensely talented, his humility has often astonished me. While taking classes, he is my guru. But once classes were over, he was like an Indian father to me. I stayed at his house as a guest and I fondly recall how awesome a husband he has always been. I learnt a lot from C V Chandrasekhar sir. Beyond what he has taught me about dance, he taught me a lot about life, living, culture, the purpose of life etc. My guru is what a teacher should be. Or we all human beings should be: humble and helpful.
Learning dance helps you learn so many things. It helps to read other people as well.
Now as a dancer I have to write about his performance. On stage he gets transformed. He is under divine influence when he performs on the stage. It is a sight to behold. It is a fact that his performance is always superlative. But to me when he performs, he becomes closer to the Gods. After watching him perform, this is what I feel. I had told him about this, when we sat down for a chat some hours after the performance. Dance is a surer way to be near God. I am not a Hindu. But I feel this from within and I mean it by all means.
Another important thing about my guru that I must stress here is this. He never asked me to do anything in a particular way. He wanted me to do this the way I have felt. He never insists on things because he knows the fine art of teaching.
I will write more about it in my coming posts.
