Astronomers are closely watching an asteroid the size of a bus that is coming towards the Earth at a speed of 14,400 km per hour.

This 2024 JP1 interception will be harmless and is expected to occur on June 1 at a safe distance of 7.07 million kilometers despiste this fast pace. According to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a bus-sized asteroid known as 2024 JP1 is on course with Earth at 14400 km/h.

The NEO monitoring squadron that endeavors to positively identify and compile records of these astronomical objects is credited for uncovering 2024 JP1. Thanks to strong telescopes and improved surveillance mechanisms, they managed to sight this asteroid hence ascertain its course accordingly. It is evident from the statistics that this asteroid will get closest to our planet on the 1st of June, 2024 at 7.07 million kilometers.

Researchers around the world including the US, Europe, and Asia are keeping tabs on asteroid 2024 JP1’s trajectory through a network of observatories. JPL goes beyond just studying remote stars into studying the earth, using its satellites in the process of collecting information needed for understanding our own planet.
