Manpreet Singh Anand, NDI’s Asia Regional Director, and Jami Spykerman, NDI’s Tibet Program Director, recently paid a visit to the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile (TPiE), extending warm greetings to Speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and Deputy Speaker Dolma Tsering Teykhang. The exchange, marked by the traditional gesture of presenting Tibetan ceremonial scarves (Khata), was followed by a productive session at the Standing Committee’s Hall.
During the hour-long meeting, the Speakers provided updates on ongoing and completed projects fostered through the close collaboration between TPiE and NDI. The Deputy Speaker emphasized the tangible outcomes resulting from this partnership, including the 8th World Parliamentarians’ Convention on Tibet's report, workshops for new MPs, and efforts to enhance lawmakers' advocacy and communication skills.
The Speaker expressed gratitude for NDI's support in various TPiE initiatives, ranging from the constitution of the 17th Tibetan parliament to strategic planning and outreach programs. NDI's Asia Regional Director reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering democratic resilience, particularly in the face of challenges. The delegates concluded their visit with an enriching tour of the parliament hall, underscoring the strength of the enduring collaboration between NDI and TPiE.
