The Union Minister of State for Personnel, Dr. Jitendra Singh, recently stated before the Lok Sabha that as many as 1,195 candidates hailing from reserved and backward categories were appointed in high-ranking roles in the government as IAS, IPS and IFS officers over the past five years. Of these officers, 233 were appointed in 2018, 231 in 2019, 223 in 2020, 250 in 2021 and 258 in 2022.
Dr. Singh said, “Recruitment to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFS) is done through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in accordance with the relevant rules.“
It is pertinent to mention that Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) are represented at India’s premium administrative services at the rates of 15%, 7.5%, and 27%, respectively, in the IAS, IPS and IFS.
