The popular Netflix teen comedy drama series, Sex Education has been on the talk since it came into existence. Few weeks back the season 3 of the web series was released, which was a highly anticipated season.
In a country like India, a series like Sex Education maybe a bit too much, but the reality is it should not be, as it is the reality of every individuals life. Conversations related to sex here make people uncomfortable, thus I think it's very necessary to have Sex Education especially in country like India, which has such a huge population and high sexual crime rates among juvenile and the youth.
Although the series claims to be a teen series, for the Indian standard I'm sure the adults will be offended too seeing the normalcy and openness of conversations they had in the series. From conversations about sexuality, and acceptance, to STI's and STD's, puberty challenges, emotional turbulence, the series has showcased and talked about various aspects of sexual education.
The series itself teaches a lot more than we're taught in our day to day lives in an Indian Society. When it comes to Sexual Education that's not really a part of curriculum in our schools, it's not considered necessary to have Sex Education as an important aspect of growth and development for the teen in our society, who later become the future.
Leave Sex Education in our schools the chapters of Reproduction in our class 8th and 10th science periods are also skipped or are not even taught properly across schools.
There is lack of awareness among the students about the very basic ideas about adolescence, menstruation, masturbation, well being of sexual health and so many other basic knowledge related to one's sexuality. Hence we end up making our youth transphobic, homophobic, unaware about their own selves and so much more.
Its time we should normalize Sex Education in our country, so our children get the right information and make decisions which are healthy and right!
