Narendra Modi wrote a letter to Imran Khan on the occasion of Pakistan republic day and in return received a letter from Imran Khan today.
As reported, back channel G2G negotiations were on since 2018 end and got the boost from UAE, KSA & USA to bring about the peace on the borders early this month with both New Delhi & Islamabad agreeing to strict adherence of ceasefire agreement.
Although, India has not accepted any role of UAE (third party) between India & Pakistan, nonetheless, New Delhi not giving due credit to UAE's contribution smells me the behest at which UAE acted was Pakistan & not India.
The US saw this as an opportunity to keep Pakistan in check vis-a-vis Afghanistan and therefore sought positive stance from India. To me it looks like Narendra Modi reluctantly accepted the offer as probably needs time to sharpen his blades after Ladakh stand off between AI & PLA.
The pace with which the infrastructure is build on Eastern & the Northern sectors is heartwarming for a patriot. On the other hand, military acquisitions and domestic production have gone up many mountains.
Since Pakistan is inconsequencual in the larger power projection game, and since it's call for peace; however short, India probably won't mind helping Pakistan gain some respect internationally in the eyes of those don't really know Pakistan.
For KSA, UAE & the US, it's understandable that at some point, Pakistan Army will show it's true colors and will embrace decisive 5th defeat from Indian Armed Forces.
The most striking part is not peace process with Pakistan, New Delhi becoming an aggressive, larger, and key player in Washington Diplomacy game. I mean it should be reminded to Narendra Modi that there's consequences from both side if Delhi will try to keep both sides in good humour.
India should be extremely careful about the degree at which it allows America to set the global agenda despite being weak while India follow those agendas from the position of strength.
India's global standing has grown after Chinese retreat from Ladakh and the manner in which they had to leave gave India a much needed recognition.
