NewJeans and TWICE Achieve Platinum and Gold Certifications for Streaming in Japan
The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) has announced its latest round of official certifications.
In 2020, the RIAJ introduced a new certification system for online streaming of songs, complementing its existing certification systems for physical album shipments and digital download sales. Under this system, songs are certified silver at 30 million streams, gold at 50 million streams, and platinum at 100 million streams.
This past month, NewJeans received two separate RIAJ platinum certifications for streaming. Two tracks from their 2023 Korean mini album “Get Up”—their pre-release single “Super Shy” and their title track “ETA”—achieved platinum status after surpassing 100 million streams each.
Meanwhile, TWICE’s 2017 Korean hit “SIGNAL” was officially certified gold for exceeding 50 million streams in Japan.
Congratulations to both NewJeans and TWICE!
