NGOs play vital role to sensitise Kerala schools to sex education

Sex Education Kerala (SEK) is an NGO that aims to provide comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) in Malayalam to various groups of people in Kerala. It was founded in 2021 by Dr Edwin Peter, who was inspired by the UN guidelines on sex education and the lack of a proper curriculum in India. SEK covers eight broad concepts related to sexuality, such as human rights, gender equality, consent, and communication. It has conducted over 100 sessions online and offline, covering topics such as child sexual abuse, queer history, and adolescent educator training. SEK believes that sex education should start from kindergarten and be culturally sensitive. It also advocates for training teachers and parents to promote open dialogue and understanding on sexuality.
