Today at the Lok Sabha the much awaited debate on the no-confidence taking place in the Lok Sabha.
This session is anticipated to last for 12 hour with approximately 6 hours and 41 minute allotted for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the Congress party is granted around one hour and 15 minutes, sources close to the development cited.
The debates are scheduled to unfold across two days, namely August 8 and 9, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reply to the debate on August 10.
The no-confidence motion moved by Opposition parties of I.N.D.I.A bloc was accepted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla last week.
Ahead of the no-confidence motion debate in Lok Sabha, the Bharatiya Janata Party has called a meeting of its parliamentary party on Tuesday.
Initially, it speculated that MP Rahul Gandhi, who returned to Parliament on Monday after four month, will open the discussion in Lok Sabha.
But Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi initiated the debate in the Parliament. He alleged that a government which talks about “one India has created two Manipurs -- one living in hills and the other in the valley”.
Gogoi asked three questions to the government. “The Prime Minister took a 'maun vrat' to not speak in Parliament. So, we had to bring the no-confidence motion to break his silence. We have three questions for him - 1) Why did he not visit Manipur to date? 2) Why did it take almost 80 days to finally speak on Manipur and when he did speak it was just for 30 seconds? 3) Why has the PM not sacked the Manipur CM so far?” Gogoi asked.
As the lower house took up the motion moved by Gogoi, there were heated exchanges between the opposition and treasury benches after Parliamentary affairs minister Pralhad Joshi wondered why Rahul Gandhi's name as lead speaker was withdrawn last minute.
Gogoi's response that should the remarks made by the prime minister in Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's chamber be revealed in the House evoked a sharp retort from Union home minister Amit Shah who said the member cannot make unsubstantiated claims about the PM.
