Virat Kohli has lit up the ODI World Cup 2023 with his remarkable batting performance and ended up as the highest run-getter to help the Indian team reach the finals. 🏏
Despite being one of the most decorated batters of all time across formats Kohli is not the first choice in India's T20I XI, anymore. With the T20 World Cup set to be played in June 2024, the discussion has quickly shifted from ODIs to T20Is.
BCCI had a five-hour review meeting after the World Cup final in the presence of captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Rahul Dravid, and the selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar.
On the other hand, there is still no clarification over Kohli's future in the shortest format of the game. Despite setting the World Cup on fie with more than 700 runs Kohli is is currently not the preferred choice at No.3 in T20Is.
There were also discussions over the potential replacement for Kohli in T20Is as they want a player who can play attacking cricket and Ishan Kishan's name appeared as the frontrunner for the No.3 spot. The left-hander played a couple of good knocks batting at that position in the recently concluded home series against Australia.
However, the selectors and other senior members of the board will reportedly have a discussion with Kohli soon regarding his plans for the T20Is. Kohli is not part of the white-ball leg on the South Africa tour along with Rohit and Jasprit Bumrah but the trio will return for the two-match Test series.
