North Korea condemned the United Nations meeting on the history of human rights violations in this country and called it an American plan.
On Thursday (17th August), the Security Council held a meeting on human rights violations in North Korea.
The US ambassador to the United Nations, Kim Jong Un, accused North Korea's leader of using "cruelty and oppression" to produce nuclear weapons and missiles.
A spokesman for the human rights department of the North Korean government told the country's state news agency: "We will never tolerate slander against rights by America and its followers, and we will defend the sovereignty of the government, the socialist system, and our security interests."
China, one of North Korea's allies, opposed holding a United Nations meeting on human rights in this country.
