Tottenham sacked their manager Nuno Espirito Santo after a shambolic 3-0 home defeat to Manchester United. The sacking of Nuno made it the 3rd sacking of a spurs manager in as many years. So how will Conte, who was the bookies favourite to join Man United a week ago, set up this Spurs team?
Having seen Conte’s teams play before, it would be fair to say that he likes playing a three at the back and seeing that Spurs do actually have decent depth in the Centre-Back area this might in fact play into their hands. The most probable back three according to me would be Dier playing in the left side of the three with new signing Romero in the centre with proabably Tanganga slotting into the right side of the three. Reguilon would obviously start at left wing-back with Emerson Royal slotting into the same position on the other side of the field. Royal has previously shown that he does have the attacking impetus in Betis but has failed to prove himself at Spurs, which could be partly due to the system Nuno employed at Spurs.
Now the midfield is where it’s going to be tricky because there are a fair few options at Spurs, Conte likes to play a midfield three behind a strike partnership which is almost inevitably going to be Kane and Son. According to me, Hojberg automatically slots into the defensive midfield spot playing behind Lo Celso and an injury-ridden Ndombele who has shown that he has what it takes to make it in the Premier League when fit. The midfielders’ workload under Conte will dramatically increase under Conte as he expects his midfielder’s to join the attack along with his two wingbacks. Seeing that Kane has in fact excelled in the sort of deep-playing creative striker role, Conte might do the same making Son the sort of ‘Lukaku type of target man striker’ with Kane feeding him from deep.
All in all, though it is a long road ahead, Antonio Conte’s arrival at Tottenham could finally turn things around for them.
