Timothy Weah has officially become a Juventus player. The American arrives on a permanent deal from Lille.
The 23-year-old is set to play in Italy for the first time in his career. However, he will not be the first Weah to play in Serie A. Timothy's father is none other than former Milan striker, George, now President of Liberia, where his footballing career started in the 80’s.
Timothy, meanwhile, first got involved in the game in his native New York before leaving the USA for Europe at the age of fifteen, when he entered the academy of one of his father’s former clubs, Paris Saint Germain in the summer of 2015. The class of 2000 made his first team debut for the Parisian side in March 2018. That same year he won the first title of his fledgling career, the French championship. From that season onwards, winning became a pleasant habit.
In fact, since his first triumph with PSG in season 2017/18, the US wing-back has collected eight more trophies. The following year he left PSG on loan in January for Glasgow Celtic. At the end of that season Timothy was rewarded with four winner’s medals: Ligue 1 and the French Super Cup with PSG and the league and cup double with the Scottish champions. The 2019/2020 season proved to be another successful year for the fast-maturing youngster, this time though success stemmed from his involvement with the US national team, which won the inaugural CONCACAF Nations League. His most recent triumph came on 19 June 2023, when USMT successfully defended their Nations League crown in the final against Canada. Between these two successes on the international stage, he claimed two other moments of intense satisfaction with LOSC, the team he joined in 2019. At Lille he won the French championship in season 2020/21 and the French Super Cup the following year.
Six consecutive years brimming with victories have transformed Timothy into a versatile player, capable of covering both defensively and in attack, making him an all-round wing-back.
Welcome Timothy!
