Olivia Colman and Dev Patel to Star in Unconventional Love Story 'Wicker'
Oscar-winning actress Olivia Colman and acclaimed actor Dev Patel are all set to take on unconventional roles in the upcoming indie film "Wicker," directed by Alex Huston Fischer and Eleanor Wilson. The movie is based on a short story, "The Wicker Husband," by Ursula Wills-Jones, and is slated to begin production next year with financing and production provided by Topic Studios and Tango.
In "Wicker," Colman will portray a fisherwoman in a coastal village who's become fed up with her narrow-minded neighbors. In a bid to find companionship, she commissions a most unusual creation: a husband made entirely of wicker, played by Patel. Their unconventional romance sets off a wave of shock, jealousy, and chaos in the otherwise conservative town.
"Wicker" is set to make its international sales debut at the American Film Market, with CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group handling sales for U.S. rights.
The film's production credits will be a collaborative effort, involving Colman, Ed Sinclair, Tom Carver, David Michod, Brad Zimmerman, Justin Lothrop, and Brent Stiefel. Votiv, which initiated and funded the film's development, plays a significant role in its production.
Colman, an Oscar winner for her role in "The Favourite," has a diverse portfolio of film and television projects, including "The Lost Daughter," "The Father," "Tyrannosaur," and notable TV series like "The Crown," "Fleabag," and "Broadchurch." Patel, best known for "Slumdog Millionaire," boasts an impressive filmography, including "The Green Knight," "Lion" (which earned him an Oscar nomination), and more.
The duo of Fischer and Eleanor Wilson, known for their work on "Save Yourselves!," takes on the directorial roles for "Wicker." This unconventional love story promises to be a captivating and thought-provoking cinematic experience.
