Olympian Lalit Upadhyay will be given a grand welcome when he reaches Varanasi. One thousand school students and players will form a human chain from Babatpur to Lalpur Stadium. Hockey Varanasi President Dr. AK Singh said that on August 11, Lalit will arrive at Babatpur Airport by Air India flight. From here, he will go to Baba Vishwanath Dham for darshan and worship. After this, he will hold a press conference at his home in Bhagatpur at 2 pm.During this, a human chain will be formed from Babatpur Airport to Lalpur Stadium and his village Bhagatpur. Welcome arches will be made at three places. Players will welcome Lalit at every arch. Dr Singh said that he has become the first player from Banaras to win medals in two consecutive Olympics. On Saturday, on behalf of the players and Hockey Varanasi, a letter will be written to MP Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding to honour Lalit with Padmashree.
